Avs now playoff bound

via Denver Post:

The Avalanche knew three things after Peter Forsberg's first goal of the season punctuated a rally that gave Colorado a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night at GM Place:

One, Colorado will be back in the NHL playoffs after a one-season absence;

Two, the Avs will finish no lower than seventh in the Western Conference standings, meaning they won't face the Detroit Red Wings in the first round;

And three, the teasing relationship between Avalanche captain Joe Sakic and Forsberg, who beat Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo on a breakaway to give Colorado a two-goal lead at 4:53 of the third period, has been re-established.

"Joe asked me if I wanted the puck," Forsberg said with a smile in the noisy Avalanche dressing room. "At first I had to think about it, but it's OK. I don't think I should keep that one. But it was definitely great to get a goal."
