Sundin falling to the lure of Broadway proves strong
“He’s not denying that he loves New York,” Barry said of Sundin. “I think all of us do. But Mats still hasn’t given any indication that he’ll be back at all.”
Barry, who spoke with Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher Thursday, added that Toronto is a viable destination.
“Mats has been in Toronto for the past 13 years,” Fletcher said. “He has a lot of ties with the city and a lot of emotional ties to the team. But he’s at a stage in his career where he only has a short number of seasons left.”
The choice between playing for the Leafs and the Rangers might boil down to whether Sundin wants to help a team rebuild or compete for a Stanley Cup.
