McCabe will cost Leafs draft pick

via Toronto Sun:

Getting rid of Bryan McCabe apparently will cost the Maple Leafs a draft pick as well, TSN reported last night. The deal between the Leafs and the Florida Panthers, which is expected to be made official at 11 am this morning, will bring defenceman Mike Van Ryn to Toronto. The framework of the trade was worked out last month but the transaction was delayed until McCabe received a $2 million US bonus due Sept 1. The Leafs wooed Van Ryn back in 2000 when he first turned professional, but the London native opted to sign with the St. Louis Blues. “We were right in there for him at the time but for whatever reason he opted for the Blues,” said Bill Watters, who, as the Leaf assistant GM at the time, spearheaded the failed attempt to land Van Ryn
