Mats Sundin speaks, still says nothing
via Toronto Star:
“I’m 37 years old and I hope people accept that I make my own decisions,” Sundin told AM640 yesterday. “If I’m not ready to make a decision about my future career, I really hope people respect it.
“It’s really tough for anyone else to put themselves in my position.”
Sundin was at the top of his game last year, leading the Leafs in scoring. The Vancouver Canucks have made the most lucrative offer – $20 million (U.S.) over two years. The Leafs, Flyers, Rangers and Canadiens also hope to sign him.
“I haven’t even looked at different options, or teams, or where to play,” said Sundin. “That’s not even my first question. My first question is: Do I want to play any more? I’ve got to get past the personal decision of whether I’m ready to play or not.”
Sundin, expected in town tomorrow for a Friday night charity hockey game, said he’s not even sure he’ll have his mind made up about returning before training camps open this month.
“I’d love to tell everybody what my intentions are,” Sundin said. “I just do not know yet. So I just can’t say anything yet about it.”
