Dallas goes Duck Hunting once more
Let it be known: On November 7th, 2008 the Dallas Stars finally played a complete hockey game. The season debut of Sergei Zubov and the Dallas Stars debut of Mark Parrish no doubt played a huge role in the improvement. The lines Dave Tippett threw out there last night also seemed to have some chemistry for the first time this season. It was quite exciting to watch.
For the first time this season Fabian Brunnstrom was situated on the top line with Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro. Fabian was buzzing early. He had probably 3 or 4 scoring chances in the 1st period and ended up in prime real estate with an empty net once again to score his 6th goal. One thing is certain about Brunnstrom so far. He knows how to get to the right spot on the ice. He probably has 3 or 4 goals on an empty net so far. He’s going to be pretty good in this league.
Speaking of being pretty good in this league, Mark Parrish had quite the night. He easily could have potted 5 goals, but he settled for a natural hat trick. He and Mike Modano had instant chemistry. Parrish, one of just a couple right handed shots on the team, was a perfect complement to Modano. Parrish could have a big season if the two can keep this chemistry up.
Ultimately though Sergei Zubov’s re-entry into the lineup was probably the basis for the resurgence. A player of his caliber has a calming effect on a team. Sergei obviously calmed Matt Niskanen’s game down. His passing undoubtedly helped the special teams, and his first passes out of the defensive zone helped keep glorious chances away from Turco to an extent. Its amazing how much the Stars have missed him. When he retires….yikes.
The Stars return to the ice tonight hoping that they are able to continue the good vibes picked up in Anaheim last night. San Jose is up next, and this is probably just as much of a must win as last night was. You can’t get burried in the Pacific division. Dallas is teetering on the edge. They looked good last night though. If they can maintain that level of play they will be just fine.
