Burke granted permission to start talking

via Globe and Mail:

If the Toronto Maple Leafs’ ownership group already hasn’t contacted the unemployed Brian Burke about its vacant president and general manager portfolio, the final stumbling block to do so was removed yesterday.

Burke’s former employers, the Anaheim Ducks, have filed the necessary documentation with the NHL that gave permission for the 29 other clubs to discuss employment opportunities with the 53-year-old free-agent GM.

How swiftly the Leafs will act is unclear. Interestingly, Burke said he plans to take a few days off to visit Vancouver with his wife next week. Maple Leaf and Sports Entertainment president and chief executive officer Richard Peddie is in Vancouver with the Leafs on their Western Canada road swing.
