Something that isn’t available today might be available in January.

“Every team wants a big, dominant centre-ice man. Other than goalie, it’s probably the most coveted position in our league. In the event that Mats doesn’t end up here, we’ll be looking at other things.”

Gillis has helped orchestrate a culture change since he replaced Dave Nonis as general manager last spring. He has expanded the management team and invested in player development. He has begun implementing some innovative ideas about assessment and player preparedness — both mental and physical.
