McCarty ready for HOCKEYTOWN?
via mLive:
“Such great memories of seeing the signs, people coming out, signing the autographs. The standing ovation that first game was amazing,” McCarty said. “I always knew this was such a great hockey hotbed. It’s nice to be able to have shared this journey with them. And they’re a big part of it. I will always consider myself a Griffin from now on.”
McCarty’s two-week conditioning stint with the Griffins ends Monday, at which point he will join the parent club Detroit Red Wings. McCarty’s final two games with the Griffins will be tonight at Milwaukee and Saturday at Lake Erie.
McCarty said he feels prepared to return to Detroit. His last NHL game was April 8, 2007, with the Calgary Flames.
“The last few games, things are coming together. Hockey-wise, everything is getting there,” McCarty said. “I think I’m ready to make that next step.”
Grand Rapids coach Mike Stothers isn’t ready to say goodbye to McCarty just yet.
