Another Must Win Tonight
by Patrick Storto
Last night was not a good one for the Maple Leafs. The Sabres, Capitals, and Panthers all picked up wins last night, which leaves the Leafs only one option this evening and that would be to win. If they lose tonight they fall behind and would only have nine games left to catch up. Forunately for the Leafs, Buffalo played last night and they put alot of effort into their 7-1 win over the Hurricanes. They might be a little tired, but on the flip side, they’re probably really fired up.
Another problem for the Leafs is a game that just got undeway a few minutes ago between the Bruins and the Flyers. The Leafs are trying to catch both of these teams and one of them will walk away with 2 points this afternoon. A 3-point game between these two would be absolutely devestating.Â
I gave you the reasons why the Leafs need to win this game, but there is a major problem. It was announced this morning that Mats Sundin will not dress tonight, as he is still suffering from a groin strain. I had previously said that in order for the Leafs to have any chance of making the playoffs, they will need both Sundin and Toskala to put forth their best performances. Well tonight Sundin is not playing and so unless Toskala can somehow minimize the goals, possibly a shutout, this game will not go to the Maple Leafs.Â
On a side note, Mark Bell is back in the line-up tonight. Bell was out of the line-up for more than two months with a broken orbital bone, which he suffered during a fight with Pittsburgh’s Ryan Malone.Â
For some reason, I highly doubt that Bell will fill Sundin’s shoes. My predicition is 3-2 for the Sabres.
