Just breaking news from the Panthers/Sabres game, Richard Zednik just took a skate to the neck from Olie Jokinen.
Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik was taken off the ice in Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres after taking a skate to his neck.
With the Sabres leading 4-3 midway through the third period, linemate Olli Jokinen – who was being checked in the Sabres’ zoneÂ - fell forward and his skate accidentlyÂ caught Zednik’s neck.
Zednik bled profusely from his neck, but was able to skate toward his bench where he was met by the trainer and immediately ushered to the locker room.
UPDATE: Zednik is listed as stable and was transported to a hospital.
UPDATE #2: After the game, aÂ Panthers spokesman said the team made arrangements to have Zednik’s wife Jessica fly to Buffalo on Sunday night. Also, assistant general manager Randy Sexton and assistant trainer Dave Zenobi are remaining in Buffalo to be with Zednik.
UPDATE #3: Numerous reports are Zednik is out of surgery and resting.
